Anyone can make a commercial with a client with deep pockets and an army for a crew. I love the challenge of creating a meaningful story with little budget, a passionate team—and a whole lot of gumption.
THE SPIRIT & SPIRITS OF PORT COSTA
I was staring up at a 10-foot polar bear, trying not to eye the Hells Angel sitting next to me. As the bartender went on about the prostitute who once ran the joint, the haunted hotel across the street and the Bigfoot skeleton that used to be upstairs, I thought somebody really ought to make a documentary about this place. Can the town accept a self-described "agent of change"? Will the next generation get to inherit Port Costa? And what about that torso in the tub? Here are some excerpts from the longer (38 min) film.
GOOD MAN This short was part of a challenge: Tell the story of someone who’s making a difference in the world. And shoot it in ONE day, with a crew of no more than three. And make it five minutes. The result is our touching story of redemption.
HATCHED A documentary in progress, this short film follows a passionate group of people here in the Bay Area trying to save the nearly extinct African ostrich.
